One thing that always severely irked me about WT public talks was the frequent reference to animals not having feelings like humans. A friend and member of this board sent this to me in an email:

RE: Animal Antics

There are so many neat things that crows do that it's hard to pick just one. The use of tools by animals is always fascinating. I wish I hadn't lost track of the actual shaping of a tool by a crow. It had a hook at the end. Ah well, maybe I'll find it eventually. This one is very good though.

BTW, gogh, thanks for the elephant walk. Always loved that piece!

This next one really shows the keen powers of observation and learning ability of crows:

Now, where is that one of the crow fishing with bait? :scratchhead:

Found it! :cheer:

Knowing how much crows love bread, this took a lot of intelligence to figure out the trade-off for a fresh fish! I loved his technique!

Y'know, animals and birds can often show us what perfection looks like. Here's a beautiful example:

I get all chocked up when I watch this sort of stuff. (silly me)

When I was a kid and tropical fish were all the rage, I wanted seahorses! But....had I know about seadragons I would have switched loyalties.

Did you even know these little guys existed? I didn't!

RE: Animal Antics

When our family lived on a homestead in a century house, flies were always a problem in summer. So, I got me some Venus Flytraps.

While not strictly animals, their antics are very similar. Soooo.....

 They were so good at cleaning up the flies that I often had to open the back door to let some more in for their dinners.....hehehe.

Incredible dive! Notice how the fox accurately locates his prey with first one ear and then another. Sterio.

I'm hoping we don't get snow for another couple of months but it sure is pretty from afar.

RE: Animal Antics

Hi Res,

I don't have a pic to show you, but with imagination, you will 'see'.

Last night I shifted from the couch to the floor to do my exercises for my hip. My dog lay down close beside me, belly up, legs held up in the air and kicking, his head swishing from side to side.

Needless to say, I convulsed with laughter. Animals love to copy what we do.

Love,
Tessa

RE: Animal Antics

I loved the ninja cat, Abe! :ninja: It's so FAST!!!!

Tessa, yer right. Animals do love to do what we do. When we lived on a homestead we'd go for walks: Our family, the two goats, dog and cat....all in a line -- except for the cat who loved to dash ahead and hide in the grass and then ambush us when we reached his hideout.

Chief Seattle once said:

"What is man without the beasts? If all the beasts were gone, man would die from a great loneliness of spirit. For whatever happens to the beasts, soon happens to man. All things are connected."

Chief Seattle
1786-1866, American Indian Chief of the Suquamish

I can't imagine a planet without living beings other than man. Can you?

love,
