IN your name?

Matt 7 is an interesting chapter.

the general flow of it starts with
judging others
seeking
the two gates
prophets true/false
disciples true/false
builders wise/foolish

This is all part of a speach starting in chapter 5 from Jesus.

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

I wonder how anyone who preaches God in any way other then thru the HOLY name of JESUS will escape this judgement?

I can think of a few religions that stake a claim to a "name"
Some have the name correct yet are doing serious damage to it.
Yet other have not a clue of which name they need to call?

But I think it is important to see the difference that is JESUS name that people need to call on for salvation and no other name not even our heavenly fathers.

Jesus will be the one doing the casting off and telling people plainly.

SO I wonder how a jw will react when they call out to Jehovah and not our Lord Jesus. Do they see it as two for one.
OR is this a form of Disrespect for our Christ?
are they going to say "in your name" when they hardly use it?
and reject his covenant around this time of the year?

RE: IN your name?

Hey Big Bro!

I tend to read that its those who are doing the Will of Father, not so much who calls on Jesus' name....

Which to me, seems to suggest that there are more who do Fathers Will than we realise...

RE: IN your name?

The thing is... it's God's will for everyone who believes in Him to call upon His Son. It's the way He designed the plan for our salvation - everything is through the Son - and that IS the will of the Father ---

Ps. 2:12 Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way,
For His wrath may soon be kindled
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

Heb. 10:5 Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says,
"SACRIFICE AND OFFERING YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED,
BUT A BODY YOU HAVE PREPARED FOR ME;
6 IN WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE TAKEN NO PLEASURE.
7 "THEN I SAID, 'BEHOLD, I HAVE COME
(IN THE SCROLL OF THE BOOK IT IS WRITTEN OF ME)
TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD
.'"
8 After saying above, "SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND sacrifices FOR SIN YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, NOR HAVE YOU TAKEN PLEASURE in them" (which are offered according to the Law),
9 then He said, "BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL." He takes away the first in order to establish the second.
10 By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

2 Thes. 1:11 To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power,
12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 cents' worth. :)

:heartbeat: You are my friends! I don't think it just by chance, but by God's Grand Design, that He has guided both our steps... to let your paths cross mine. :heartbeat:

Spot on, Willa...and I would only add that it also reinforces the idea that doctrine matters little in distinguishing who is and who isn't a Christian.

RE: IN your name?

One thought LB,

This scripture would only apply to those who claim to know the Lord would it not?

Please read carefully.

I do agree that their in fact may be many doing the will of the father but how many that follow our Lord Jesus will be told plainly that he never knew them.

Do you see the vision he gave us? It is for all types of christians.
Revelations the book mostly pertains to christians don't you think?
God does not address those whom he does not know does he?
He will have mercy on them but they are not yet part of the story from what I see. they are without Law.
