Lost in Translation

A vision is but just a whim,
If not from God above,
For many are the gods below,
Who do not know His love,
And so I search not just in prayer,
But in my heart alone,
That I be humble as the dust,
That in the wind was blown;
So spare me Lord, my God and King,
From ravages of hate,
Born in the hearts of those whose tongues
Speak nothing that is straight,
For I perceive You are the one
Whose language we have lost,
And we were left with empty words,
Translated for a cost;
For we were built upon this earth
To live as you prescribed,
But we have left your poetry
For something undescribed,
And we have trusted not the text,
And metaphors of time,
But we have changed it to a mist
And all that cannot rhyme,
For we are human, built of flesh
And dust from solid rocks,
And we have taken God above
And put Him in a box,
Both scribe and tutor we employ
To teach us how to trust,
But what a cost for what we lost
Our history turned to dust.

"What cannot be understood is no object of belief.” Isaac Newton.
"The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false face for the urge to rule it.” H. L. Mencken
